Governor Wolf Announces New Plan to Boost Apprenticeship Program

On September 6, Governor Tom Wolf announced that he would be adding $297,000 towards the state’s pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship grant program which will help continue Western Pennsylvania Bricklayers Masonry Training Program which is run by the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 9. 

The program helps students learn a variety of skills including bricklaying, metalling, and masonry, while getting on-the-job experience under the supervision of a skilled trade worker, often called a journeyman. By the end of the program, the new journeymen will have completed 6,000 hours of on-site training as well as 576 hours of classroom education/training. 

The program will largely impact the local economy of central and western Pennsylvania in addition to Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cameron, Cambria, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Fayette, Forest, Fulton, Greene, Huntingdon, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, McKean, Potter, Somerset, Venango, Warren, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
